Fifty officers from the Ghana Police Service's Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have received specialised training in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support criminal investigations and intelligence gathering.

The training, organised by IGNITE Social Enterprise in partnership with brAInify, took place in Accra on October 29, 2026.

It brought together senior personnel from the two security agencies, including officers from the CID's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Interpol, Cybersecurity, Financial Crime and Legal units.

The programme focused on practical applications of AI in managing complex case files, analysing financial transaction trails, identifying manipulated digital content and preparing intelligence reports for command-level decision-making.

Facilitated by two AI specialists from the United Arab Emirates, the workshop also covered the detection of synthetic media, including AI-generated images, audio and manipulated text.

Speaking at the event, IGNITE Global Advisory Board Member and Strategic Partner for Sub-Saharan Africa, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, said the use of AI could reduce the time officers spend processing administrative information and allow them to concentrate on analysis and decision-making.

He said the initiative was intended to equip security personnel with tools to extract useful insights from data and improve the quality of investigative outputs.

Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Rachael Klomegah described the training as timely, particularly in view of the growing use of AI-generated content and digital manipulation.

She said the skills acquired would help officers identify anomalies in AI-generated text, images and audio, which she considered important for border and identity protection.

A participant from the CID, Sergeant Salamata Sophiano, said the tools demonstrated during the workshop could improve the handling of existing investigations, particularly in structuring information and preparing intelligence reports.

She called for further training to help officers develop their proficiency in the use of the technology.

IGNITE's Regional Consultant for Sub-Saharan Africa, Paul Yao Dovi, said the adoption of AI in public institutions should be guided by integrity, transparency and compliance with relevant regulations.

All 50 participants received certificates after completing the programme.

The training was delivered through brAInify, an AI-powered digital education platform developed by IGNITE to support digital literacy and workforce skills development.

IGNITE Social Enterprise, headquartered in Hong Kong, describes itself as a global social enterprise focused on digital education, micro-entrepreneurship and social e-commerce.

brAInify is its digital learning platform, which the organisation says is designed to help individuals and professionals develop digital and AI-related skills.
