Vice President Naana Jane urges Black Stars to carry Ghana's hopes into Panama clash

Ghana's Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged the Black Stars to play with courage, unity and determination as they prepare to open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama.

The Vice President delivered the message during a visit to Ghana's team hotel in Toronto on Tuesday, where she met the players, technical team and officials ahead of Wednesday's crucial Group L opener at BMO Field.

Conveying the goodwill of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana, Professor Opoku-Agyemang assured the squad that the entire nation is firmly behind them.

"The entire nation is behind you," she told the players.

"You carry the hopes of 30 million Ghanaians. Go out there and make Ghana proud."

She urged the team, led by captain Jordan Ayew and head coach Carlos Queiroz, to embrace the responsibility of representing the country on football's biggest stage.

"Ghanaians from all walks of life are united behind this team. We pray for your strength, your safety and your success," she said.

"Tomorrow, when you walk onto that pitch, remember that you are not alone. You play for Mother Ghana."

The Vice President was accompanied by Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Ghana's High Commissioner to Canada, Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, and Nana Otuo Siriboe II, who represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The visit comes as the Black Stars complete their final preparations for their opening fixture, with Ghana aiming to make a winning start before facing England and Croatia in their remaining Group L matches.
