Victor Osimhen delivered when it mattered most, scoring the opening goal as Galatasaray cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over fierce rivals Fenerbahce in a decisive Istanbul derby on Sunday.

The Nigerian striker, starting his first game in over a month, returned in style, leading the line with authority and composure. His goal, the first of the encounter, set the tone for a dominant performance that moved Galatasaray to the brink of the Turkish league title.

Osimhen’s strike came just before half-time, capping a period of growing pressure from the home side. Midfielder Mario Lemina threaded a precise pass into his path, and the forward showed sharp anticipation and strength to beat two defenders before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper.

It was his 13th league goal of the campaign and his 20th across all competitions for Galatasaray, underlining his importance to the team’s title push. Notably, his last league goal before Sunday came on 13 March, when Galatasaray recorded an identical 3-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.

Galatasaray carried their momentum into the second half and were awarded a penalty after sustained attacking pressure. The situation worsened for Fenerbahce as their goalkeeper was sent off during the incident, leaving the visitors with an uphill task.

Baris Alper Yilmaz stepped up and confidently converted from the spot, firing into the bottom corner to double the lead.

Midfielder Lucas Torreira then sealed the emphatic victory with a third goal, ensuring Galatasaray claimed maximum points in one of the most significant fixtures of the season.

The result sends Galatasaray seven points clear at the top of the table, tightening their grip on the title race. With just one more win needed to be crowned champions, Sunday’s derby triumph could prove the defining moment of their season.

For Osimhen, it was a timely return to scoring form—and one that may ultimately deliver silverware.
