Chris Brown Gets Suspended Sentence Over London Nightclub Assault.

American singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months, over an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.

The sentence was handed down at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, October 26, 2026. Although Brown received a prison term, he will avoid immediate custody. The sentence could be activated if he commits another offense during the 12-month suspension period.

The incident occurred at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, on February 19, 2023. Prosecutors told the court that Brown struck Diaw twice on the head with a tequila bottle. Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also joined in the assault.

Diaw suffered head and knee injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to affray in July 2026. Affray involves using or threatening unlawful violence that causes others to fear for their safety. Following their guilty pleas, more serious charges against them were dropped.

Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 each toward prosecution costs.

Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated use of the glass bottle as dangerous, warning that it carried a risk of causing far more serious injuries. He also stressed that Brown’s fame and commercial success did not entitle him to special treatment under the law.

The sentencing follows a lengthy police investigation. Brown was arrested in May 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom for a concert in Manchester.

While the suspended sentence allows Brown to avoid immediate imprisonment, the court's conviction remains on his legal record.
