Seven companies have been shortlisted to partner with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in developing the proposed Keta Port in the Volta Region.

President John Dramani Mahama announced the development at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, November 7, saying the firms were selected from 47 companies that expressed interest in becoming strategic investors in the project.

He said the selection followed a due diligence exercise and that the shortlisted companies would proceed to the next stage of the process.

The next phase, according to the President, will focus on completing the project designs and securing the financing required to commence construction.

“Your Majesty, to update you on the status of the port, I’m pleased to announce that 47 companies submitted expressions of interest in partnering with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority as the strategic partners for the port’s development. Due diligence has been conducted, and this has been shortlisted to seven companies,” he said.

President Mahama also disclosed that construction of the port’s administration block, which began under the previous administration, is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing the Keta Port project, which is expected to stimulate economic activity and create employment opportunities for communities in the Volta Region.
